Views of the Garden of Remembrance on 2 May 2000

An important part of the move of the Cadia Cemetery to the Garden of Remembrance was to include the headstone of Captain Josiah Holman and his wife. The headstone stands in a position which overlooks the Cadia Engine House and its Chimney. Josiah Holman played a key role in the construction of the old Cadia Mine and its essential equipment. The mine then operated under his management for a considerable number of years. The headstone to the right of the Holman one is to Emily Louisa Blood who died at the age of 33 years.

The other photographs give a broader picture of the whole Garden of Remembrance, making it possible for viewers to understand why the Cadia descendants were so pleased with the final result of all the project work. When the grass is covering the area between the boulders and the daffodils are in bloom, another visit will be worth making.

The Extensive View across the Cadia Valley to the Cadia Hill Gold Mine

The three photographs across the valley from the Visitors Centre make up a panoramic view down the valley, showing how the western side of the valley is occupied by the opencut mine, the attendant industrial buildings and the overburden hills in the distance.
